Spelling Bee

The Gastineau Spelling Bee is scheduled for January 25, 2012 in the Library at 8:30 am. The District Spelling Bee will be held at Harborview Elementary School on February 8, 2012 at 6:30 pm.  See below for the practice spelling lists.

Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books is set for January 26, 2012. The Battle will start at 8:15 am for 3rd/4th grade and 9:30 am for 5th grade. If your child says they are bored, look at the Battle of the Books list for ideas. There is something for almost every interest.

I am looking for some parents to help students prepare for the Battle of the Books. If you are able to meeting twice a week at 11:30 am, please call me at 463-1999. 

In the classroom - 

Each month I will be starting kids groups related to different topics. In the past, I have done groups on divorce,friendship skills, handling anger in a positive way, and so on. If you would like your child to meet with me for any reason please let me know. I am happy to meet and talk with kids about issues that are impacting them and their family. Sometimes, I may suggest the the issue requires more intensive therapy or intervention than I am set up to provide here. If so, I will provide you with a list of resources in our community to help you with that decision. 

If a child comes to school worried, upset, and or afraid for their own or anothers' safety, it is hard to concentrate on writing, reading and  arithmetic. Bottom line is that the counseling program is here to help your child be as successful as possible in their academic endeavors.
